If you have never witnessed a wedding at Faith, it’s quite an experience. I have officiated many weddings, and regularly I’ll hear people say, “That was a moving ceremony” or, “I’ve never seen anything like this before.”

There is only one reason for comments like that. It has its roots in our decision to firmly fasten our focus on what weddings are really for – letting the glory of the heavenly Bridegroom – Jesus – be glorified first and foremost.

There is always the pressure to be world-minded, feeling the need to impress and out-do everyone else. It’s motivated by a sense of competition which manifests itself in producing the finest wedding with the most elaborate decorations, focusing on the need to be unique and just a little different.

There is nothing wrong with beautiful decorations, fine music, and the other trimmings; all have their rightful place. But establishing the purpose for your wedding is our first concern. 

As your pastor, let me make several suggestions:

1. Expect a precious work of God’s Spirit that seals love and releases purpose.
2. Exchange holy vows that are more than casual phrases, but rather binding words of commitment.
3. Establish a home in the love of God and pray that it shows.
